What are lash extensions?
Lash extensions are a service to thicken, lengthen and enhance your natural lashes. Extensions are perfect for special occasions, one time application or long term day to day wear. Lashes are applied lash by lash, one at a time, attaching one synthetic extension to one natural hair giving you a natural, beautiful look using a semi-permanent medical grade adhesive that will not irritate the eye nor damage the natural lash. Everyone has different lashes, and depending on the condition of your own natural lashes, lash artists can only go a certain length or thickness. (This is to ensure that your own lashes remain healthy.) Lash extensions, when applied correctly, are weightless and very comfortable on the eyes.
How are the extensions applied?
You will lay comfortably with your eyes closed for the duration of the appointment. Many clients fall asleep. After your consultation and the ideal lash size and style is selected, one single lash is dipped in a tiny amount of adhesive, and attached near the base of your natural eyelash one by one.
Is it okay to wear mascara?
Not needing to wear mascara is one of the biggest benefits to having extensions, but if you are planning to wear mascara in addition to the extensions, only use it on the tips of the extensions and with a very light hand. Using mascara at the base of the extensions will get very clumpy and difficult to remove, causing you to loose the extensions prematurely.
Will your natural lashes get harmed or damaged?
The biggest myth is that lash extensions ruin your own lashes. They do not. If applied correctly and properly, they are safe and do not ruin the health of your natural lashes. Be sure not to rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lash loss and even damage to your natural lashes.
What should I do to prepare for my appointment?
Please remove all eye makeup and contacts before your appointment. Be sure to use a mild, oil-free makeup remover/cleanser. Plan accordingly before your appointment to ensure keeping your lash extensions dry for 24-48 hours after application. Also, be mindful of coffee, energy drinks and anything that would not allow you to lay still for the duration of your appointment.
Who should not get eyelash extensions?
There are a few factors that can rule out eyelash extensions as a possibility. If you do not have eyelashes already, it is very difficult (if not impossible) to apply the extensions because there is nowhere to put them. If your eyes water constantly, you tend to rub your eyes, you pick mascara from your lashes, you may not be a candidate for extensions. NOTE: All of these symptoms could be from an allergy to mascara. If that is the case, lash extensions are a perfect way for you to get relief.
Can people with contacts have eyelash extensions?
Yes, there is absolutely no problem with wearing contacts and lash extensions together. If you have sensitive eyes or if they have a tendency to get dry eyes, just make sure you bring a contact case with you so you can take them out as you have the extensions done, then pop them back in afterward.
How can I make the extensions last longer?
Follow all after care instructions given after your appointment. In addition, try to sleep on your back! I know this is difficult for those who are accustomed to being side (or even face) sleepers, but it can help your lashes avoid getting pulled or prodded. Also, even if you love feeling that lengthy, lovely, lush set of new lashes…. resist the urge to touch.
Can the extensions be removed?
Yes, lashes can easily be removed in a 45 minute appointment. Please do not attempt to remove any lashes on your own as you could damage your natural lashes this way.
What if I have an allergic reaction?
An allergic reaction to the adhesive is rare; however, if you are allergic to adhesives such as band-aids or glue, or have sensitive eyes, you may react to lash extensions. We can do a patch test before your appointment if we agree that is the best solution. If you do have any reaction, contact me immediately. In most cases, lashes need to be removed to relieve the irritation.
